NECK PAIN + PEOPLE PLEASING

This is what happens when we say YES when we actually want to say NO.

This pattern tends to show up in the body as neck and shoulder pain and tension.

This happens because the body creates a mechanical pull in the tissues around your throat due to the two conflicting rules your subconscious has made:

a. I am only safe if I am accepted by others (lie)

b. My body is saying no (truth)

When your truth is unable to be expressed, this pull stays in the tissues, attempting to stabilize the nervous system.

When your truth is continually denied, it is stored deeper in the tissues, holding others over self until you decide to stretch the brain’s definition of safety and move from honesty.

The people-pleaser is a pattern of believing safety only exists if another’s needs are met over your own, aka ignoring your needs for (misperceived) acceptance.

The more this pattern is lived, it becomes a chronic pattern of tension in your tissues.

Once solidified, it becomes an identity…a part of your personality, and who you believe yourself to be (I do identify as a recovering people-pleaser whose neck was always in pain- that's not an issue anymore as I listen to my NOs).

Even though it's painful to deny yourself, the brain sees this as safety because it is a predictable pattern.

Freedom from your patterns begins in the body and in choosing truth over what feels safe to your sweet brain that is simply doing its job.
